Paul Elton Elliott, 92, died on July 29, 2010 at Mercy Hospice in Johnston, Iowa. Paul was born on Oct. 8, 1917 to Seth and Lois (Gift) Elliott. Paul was a farmer in Dallas County, the manager of the Stuckey's Store on I-80 at Waukee and an award winning furniture mover and semi-driver for North American Van Lines for 20 years. He loved to travel for business and pleasure. He was a member of the Dallas Center United Methodist Church. In later years, Paul enjoyed making yard furniture and children's toys out of wood.
Paul was married to Dorothy House on July 30, 1937. They were married for almost 55 years at the time of Dorothy's death in 1992. They were parents to five children and also took care of five foster children. Paul married Eva Ramseyer in 1997 at age 80 and they were married for almost 13 years.
Paul is survived by his wife, Eva of Dallas Center, IA; brother, Russell (Betty) Elliott of CA; sister, Miriam Wenger of PA; children, Nancy (George) Bergeson of Des Moines, IA, Sharon Wineland (Gail Rees, Jr.) of Greeley, CO, Diane (Richard) Arganbright of Guthrie Center, IA, Roger (Deb) Elliott of Des Moines, IA, step-daughter, Joan (Ronn) Kerr of Port Orford, OR. He is also survived by 14 grandchildren, 19 great grandchildren, two great great grandchildren and many other relatives and friends.
Paul was preceded in death by his parents, Seth and Lois Elliott; his wife, Dorothy; brother, Carl Elliott; sister, Maxine May Bauer; son, Paul Jr. Elliott and his great grandson, Benjamin Fitzgerald.
The family would like to express our gratitude to the staff of Spurgeon Manor in Dallas Center, IA and to Mercy Hospice in Johnston, IA for their care and compassion for Paul.
Funeral Services will be 10:00 a.m., Monday, Aug. 2, 2010 at Dallas Center United Methodist Church, 1504 Walnut Street, Dallas Center, IA. Visitation will be from 5:00-8:00 p.m., Sunday, Aug. 1, 2010 with family greeting from 6:00-8:00 p.m., at Brandt Funeral Home, 1301 Ash Street in Dallas Center, IA.
Memorial contributions may be made to Mercy Hospice in Johnston, IA or Spurgeon Manor in Dallas Center, IA.
